Do it small to do it better

Big but never or small but now? Lower the bar. Reduce expectations. Make yourself impossible to fail. Do it small.

Writing every day for 365 days, I’ve learned the importance of starting small.

I’ve learned to appreciate creating tiny, well-crafted pieces, one at a time.

I’ve always been an “all-in” person. Start now, do it all, and do it well. This, usually, brought me to be rather brilliant, almost always, with usually good outcomes.

Is that “rather-almost-usually” that is limiting my pursuit of excellence.

What I discovered is that an excellent result is something that needs time. Only by carefully refining a piece of writing, for instance, you can reach a smooth and sound article.

I failed, more than once, in my “one good shot” approach to life and to creativity. It hurt, it burned, it made me stuck.

With this Ship 30 Essays in 30 Days Challenge, I feel completely different: one topic, one page, in one day. I feel so focused and so well directed towards the goal that I cannot think how I could miss it.

That’s how I am gaining clarity, in my thoughts and in my writing.

And that’s the way to grow an interconnected network of thoughts. A longer discourse touching several topics. Yes, but one by one.

Big but never or small but now?

Lower the bar. Reduce expectations. Make yourself impossible to fail. Do it small.

Make a small but solid brick at a time. Do it today and do it tomorrow and you will build a beautiful palace.
